HomePlusDeals.Com is an independent home improvement blog and deals guide: room-by-room guides, honest cost bands — a kitchen Refresh runs $500–$2.5k, a full remodel $25k–$60k+ — independent buying advice, and genuine deals. We are reader-supported, we take no paid placements, and we would rather explain ourselves clearly than hide behind ten pages of boilerplate. This policy covers the website and our email newsletter.

What HomePlusDeals.Com collects

Information you give us

You can read every guide on this site without telling us anything about yourself. We only receive personal information when you choose to hand it over:

  • Newsletter sign-up — your email address, and your first name if you add one.
  • Contact form or email — your name, your email address, and whatever you write in your message. If you tell us your kitchen is 10 by 12 feet and your budget is $8,000, that detail sits in the message too.
  • Comments or replies, where enabled — the name and email you supply, plus the content of your comment.

Please do not send us anything sensitive — financial account details, government ID numbers, health information. We never need them, and a contact form is not the place for them.

Information collected automatically

Like almost every website, ours records some technical detail when a page loads:

  • IP address (often truncated or anonymized by our analytics settings)
  • Browser type and version, device type, operating system and screen size
  • Referring website or search engine that sent you here
  • Pages viewed, time on page, and the links you click — including outbound links to retailers
  • Approximate location at city or country level, derived from IP

We use this in aggregate. It tells us whether our kitchen guides get opened on a phone in a hardware aisle or on a laptop at the kitchen table, which changes how we lay out a cost table. It does not tell us who you are, and we do not try to find out.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small files stored by your browser. We and our partners may use:

  • Essential cookies — keep the site working and remember your cookie choices.
  • Preference cookies — remember things like light or dark mode.
  • Analytics cookies — count visits and understand which guides are useful.
  • Advertising and affiliate cookies — set by third parties to measure whether a click from this site led to a purchase.

You can refuse or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time, and where required by law we ask for your consent before any non-essential cookie is set. Blocking analytics and advertising cookies will not break the site.

How we use your information

What we collectWhy we use it
Email address (newsletter) To send new guides, seasonal upkeep checklists and genuine deals. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link.
Name and message (contact form) To answer you, and to keep a record of the conversation if you write again.
Usage and device data To see which guides land, fix broken pages, improve speed on mobile, and decide what to write next.
Referrer and outbound clicks To understand how readers find us and whether a recommendation was useful enough to act on.
Affiliate tracking data To credit qualifying purchases so the site can stay free to read and free of paid placements.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not rent or trade our email list. If we ever needed to use your data for a genuinely new purpose, we would ask first.

Where the GDPR applies, our legal bases are: consent (newsletter, non-essential cookies), legitimate interests (running, securing and improving the site), and legal obligation where a law requires us to keep something.

Analytics and advertising

We use a third-party analytics service — for example, Google Analytics — to produce aggregate reports about how the site is used. These providers process data on our behalf and may set their own cookies. Google offers a browser opt-out add-on if you would rather not be counted at all.

We may also display advertising, and ad networks may use cookies or device identifiers to show more relevant ads and to cap how often you see the same one. These partners are independent controllers of the data they collect; their own privacy policies govern it. We have no influence over what any advertiser or network shows, and none of it influences our editorial judgement.

Our email newsletter may record whether a message was opened and which links were clicked, so we can tell a useful send from a dud.

Affiliate links

This section is our full affiliate disclosure. It sits inside the privacy policy on purpose: how the site pays for itself and what gets tracked when you click are the same conversation.

  • Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you. You pay the same price you would have paid going direct.
  • As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. We also participate in other retailer and network affiliate programs.
  • A commission never buys a recommendation on HomePlusDeals.Com. We take no paid placements. We recommend the tool, tap or tile we would fit in our own house, and plenty of our picks earn us nothing at all. When the honest answer is "keep your units and paint them, and save roughly 70%", that is what the guide says.
  • Prices and availability change constantly. Any price, discount or stock note is accurate only at the time of writing, and is only truly accurate at the moment of purchase on the retailer's own site. Always check there before you buy.
  • Our deals rules do not bend for commission. We track prices year-round and only flag a discount that is genuinely below its usual floor, and we say when timing matters — tools crash in spring, appliances in autumn. If a "was" price was never really charged, it never makes our list.
  • We flag affiliate content. Pages that contain affiliate links carry a visible disclosure, so you never have to guess.

Affiliate networks typically set a cookie when you click, so the retailer knows which site sent you. That cookie tells us a purchase happened; it does not tell us who you are or what else is in your basket. More about how we work is on our about page, and the commercial small print sits in our terms.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct anything inaccurate
  • Delete your data (the "right to be forgotten")
  • Restrict or object to how we process it, including profiling for advertising
  • Port your data to another service
  • Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting what happened before

Readers in the EU and UK have these rights under the GDPR and may complain to their national data protection authority. Readers in California have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know, delete, correct and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information — we do not sell personal information, and we honor the Global Privacy Control signal where our tools support it. We will never treat you differently for exercising a right.

The fastest opt-outs: click unsubscribe in any newsletter, adjust your cookie choices in your browser, or email us and ask. Verified requests are answered within 30 days, and sooner where we can.

How long we keep your data

  • Newsletter subscribers — until you unsubscribe, plus a short suppression record so we do not accidentally email you again.
  • Contact form messages — normally up to 24 months, so we have context if you come back mid-project.
  • Analytics data — typically retained in aggregated or anonymized form for up to 14 months.

When data is no longer needed, we delete it or strip it of anything that could identify you.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, and we work with reputable hosting, email and analytics providers who maintain their own safeguards. We keep the number of people with access to reader data as small as possible — which, for a small independent publisher, is very small indeed.

We never take payments. Nothing is sold here; when you buy, you do it on the retailer's own checkout, and your card details never touch this site. No method of transmission over the internet is perfectly secure, and we cannot promise absolute security — but we can promise we do not collect what we do not need.

Children's privacy

This site is written for adults planning home projects and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us their details, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

We update this page when our tools or practices change. The "last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version. If a change materially affects your rights — a new category of data, a new purpose — we will make it obvious rather than quietly editing a paragraph and hoping nobody notices.
